Hey there, I’m Melinda, a Graphic Designer turned Artist.

Ms Sinda is a name given to me by my Grandfather after a short nursery rhyme he created and sang to me when I was young. It’s stuck with me into adulthood, and I felt it was the perfect name that renews my connection to the act of play and creation from my childhood.

As much as Graphic Design has been a great creative outlet and my source of income over the last 10 years, I love the unstructured spontaneity and freedom of art over design. 

Art is creating something for no other reason than you have the impulse to create, because it’s in you and it feels right (sometimes). Of course, we all have the moment of ‘where am I going with this’, the uncomfortable feeling of ‘this isn’t working? ’ and the harrowing imposter syndrome that lurks not long after the piece is complete.

Regardless, there is something about the creative process, the push through, the visual awe of witnessing something in the physical that was plucked out of your mind. It’s inspiring and altogether satisfying.

My work involves a multitude of mediums from textiles to collage to illustration; I have many creative interests and intend to use all of them. It is my goal to move away from digital creation and to use my hands, as I have spent too much of my design life glued to a computer. I want to take my work analogue, to feel the physical presence of something I’ve created and see the piece interact with the world.
